Literacy Education Concentration Showcase
This is a collection of my best work that I completed as I focused on reading, writing, listening, speaking and literacy in education, as well as deepened my knowledge of innovative ways to teach literacy.

Literacy Focus Project: Inquiry Based Learning
Based on the natural curiosity of the children I teach, I was able to develop an inquiry unit on Christmas celebrations. The children developed questions, searched for information, and discovered answers. This project allowed me to apply and incorporate the aspects of inquiry based learning I learned in my literacy education courses.
Literacy Learner Analysis
This project allowed me to test and analyze best practices and theories in regards to phonological and phonetic awareness. I worked with an English Language Learner and was able to focus on helping a young Italian girl become more fluent and familiar with the English language, as I implemented the theories and practices learned in class.
Motivating Students to Read
For this project I was created a reading memo for the parents of the children in my classroom. I focused on motivating students to read, and the key factors of interest, confidence, and dedication. The values children associate with reading at a young age carry over to their beliefs about reading the rest of their lives, so this memo was an effort to get both teachers and parents involved in motivating their students/children to read.
What Children's Literature Can Do
For this paper I was able to examine nine different children books, and how these books can take a child anywhere, at anytime. I explored how literature creates new worlds, feelings, imaginations, experiences, and how these books can open up all of these things and more to the children reading them.
